Conn. Man To Face Assault Charges In Truck Rampage
STAMFORD, Conn. (CBS 2/AP) -- Police say a Connecticut man is facing assault charges after smashing his truck into several vehicles, including a school bus, on a rampage through the streets of Stamford.
Police Sgt. Andrew Gallagher says authorities have not been able to interview 30-year-old Christopher Simonelli while he remains hospitalized in a critical care unit. He says the motive remains unclear.
Gallagher said Wednesday that the Stamford man will face numerous charges for assault and risk of injury to minors. No charges have been filed, and it is unclear if Simonelli has an attorney.
Simonelli allegedly took a box truck from work Tuesday afternoon and deliberately crashed into seven vehicles, setting off a chain of collisions that affected eight other vehicles including the school bus.
More than 20 people sustained minor injuries.
