Parents Plan Protest Against Bloomberg's Schools Pick

NEW YORK (CBS 2) -- The movement against Mayor Michael Bloomberg's choice for Schools Chancellor is gaining strength.

A group of parents, opposed to Hearst Magazine Executive Cathie Black, plan to present a petition containing 10,000 signatures Monday afternoon outside the Manhattan apartment of the head of the State Education Department.

Commissioner David Steiner must grant Black a waiver for the job because she lacks the necessary education credentials to serve as chancellor.

In the meantime, New York Sen. Eric Adams and Assemblyman Marcos Crespo are promising to introduce legislation that would restrict such waivers for people who don't meet the requirements for Schools Chancellor.
