Backer Of NYC Islamic Center Plans Day Of Thanks
NEW YORK (AP/CBS 2) -- A minister, a rabbi and the imam behind an effort to build an Islamic center near the World Trade Center plan to hold an ecumenical Thanksgiving prayer service together on Wednesday.
Imam Feisal Abdul Rauf will be joined at the 1 p.m. service by The Rev. James Alexander Forbes, of The Riverside Church, and Rabbi Burton Visotzky, a professor at the Jewish Theological Seminary.
Organizers say the event is intended to "promote tolerance and engagement between faith communities in the greater New York City region."
The prayer service will be held inside the former clothing store that is to be torn down to make way for the community center.
