Off-Duty Officer Shot In The Bronx
BRONX, N.Y. (CBS 2) – An off-duty officer was shot outside a diner in the Bronx early Sunday morning, police said.
The 43-year-old officer was leaving the Pelham Bay Diner in the Pelham Gardens area of the Bronx around 5 a.m. when an altercation ended in an exchange of gunshots, including one that struck him in the lower back, CBS 2's Hazel Sanchez reports.
Officials are still trying to determine if the officer was involved in the fight or was simply trying to break up the fight.

The officer was taken to Jacobi Hospital where he's listed in stable condition while the detectives are still combing the area in search of six suspects who are believed to have left driving southbound on I-95.
The shooter was described only as a Hispanic male, WCBS 880's Mike Xirinachs reports.

Diner server Christina Grahollis said it was pretty frightening.
"What if a stray bullet would have came through? I have kids," she told 1010 WINS' Carol D'Auria.
Cops and detectives are still collecting evidence and interviewing patrons at the diner.
Server Dwayne Barrett said he never would have expected it since the cop and his friends were having a good time inside.
"They were casual. They were making jokes. Everybody was together. It was funny. They were just good people," Barrett said.
