Sweeny Says: Did Mo Almost Go?

NEW YORK (WFAN) -- Mariano Rivera spoke to reporters Thursday for the first time since signing his 2-year, $30 million dollar contract to return to the Yankees. As impossible as it sounded when we first heard the possibility that he was talking to the Red Sox, it still sounds just as absurd when you hear Mariano talk about the idea of pitching at Fenway.

But it was very real according to Rivera, who gave the Red Sox the same class and respect he gives to everyone else.

Rivera, Bernie Williams, Joe Girardi, and Brian Cashman helped greet fans at the Yankees 17th annual Holiday Food Drive on Thursday. This year fans donated more than 105,000 pounds of non-perishable food items. The Yankees, in conjunction with Bronx clergy, will distribute the food throughout the Bronx to those in need.
