Newark Mayor Touts Bi-Partisanship On Talk Show

TRENTON, N.J. (AP) -- Newark Mayor Cory Booker banged the bi-partison drum Sunday morning on NBC's "Meet the Press," saying partisan rhetoric was good for ratings but not for progress.

Appearing on a panel that discussed a wide-range of issues that included the tax-cut compromise reached by the president and Republican leaders and a new centrist political movement called "No Labels."

On the show, Booker, a Democrat, defended his work with New Jersey's Republican Gov. Chris Christie.

Booker has endorsed Christie's legislative package to help municipalities hold down property taxes and the two worked together to land a $100 million donation to Newark's public schools from Facebook founder Mark Zuckerberg.

Christie is scheduled to appear Sunday night on "60 Minutes."
