WCBS 880's Catherine Cioffi reports

After almost 100 years, the Bronxville Christmas pageant was about to have its last performance tonight, Christmas Eve.

The escalating cost of props was too much for this group, but then a Christmas miracle happened.

Village pageant co-chair Susanne Shoemaker says word started to spread and donations flooded in.

"I think it's pretty special, I have to say," Shoemaker told WCBS 880 reporter Catherine Cioffi.

In just a few weeks, Shoemaker says they raised $18,000 - enough to keep the shepherds and the angels singing for at least two more years.

Shoemaker says, "It's amazing. It's very touching. Most people who grew up in Bronxville have a pageant story."

Now, she says, those stories will continue.
