Time Out New York Kids: New Year's Picks

NEW YORK (CBS 2) -- There are plenty of great events this New Year's Day for the whole family. Time Out New York Kids has some ideas. Raven Snook is here with the details.

1. "Out on a Limb" at the Brooklyn Childrens Museum
Tickets: Free with museum admission ($7.50)
Description: The interactive exhibit showcasing various tree houses will have your urban tykes jonesing for a backyard. Visitors will explore nature by entering a series of arbor-based abodes with virtual views. Once inside, they'll craft nests for birds, make their own clubhouse, and weave a sculpture with willow bark and bamboo.
When: Sun 10am-5pm

2. Thomas the Tank Engine and the Holiday Train Show at the New York Botanical Garden
Tickets: $25 for adults, $15 for kids
Description: Some 140 landmarks featured in NYBG's wildly popular diorama are made entirely out of plant-based materials such as twigs, acorns and berries. Little locomotives zip along their tracks against a backdrop of small sights that kids should recognize, the Brooklyn Bridge and the Statue of Liberty among them. Tickets must be purchased in advance. All ages.
When: Sat, Sun 10am-7pm

3. Mummenschanz at the Skirball Center for the Performing Arts
Tickets: $45-$75
Description:Still original after all these years (33 to be exact), the surreal troupe uses a variety of everyday materials to churn out fantastical, puppet-like theater performances. The show is devoid of words, and instead creates a visual feast by transforming shapes and abstract forms into surprising characters and expressive masks. All ages.
When: Sun 2pm
