AC Police: Officer Shoots At, Misses Suspect

ATLANTIC CITY, N.J. (AP) -- Authorities say an Atlantic City police officer fired a shot while she and another officer struggled with a suspect Saturday morning.

No one was struck by the bullet.

But Cynthia Rongione, the officer who fired the shot, was hospitalized for undisclosed injuries sustained in the incident. She's expected to fully recover.

The Atlantic County Prosecutor's Office says Rongione and officer Allen Heinze went to a city apartment building around 10:50 a.m. on a domestic call. The scuffle occurred when they were preparing to ask 29-year-old Samual Laws to leave the residence.

Bail was set at $145,000 for Laws, who was charged with aggravated assault, resisting arrest and two counts of aggravated assault on a police officer.
