AFC Championship: Searching For Nightlife In 'Steel City'

PITTSBURGH (CBS 2) -- The Jets' road to glory goes through Pittsburgh, where, depending on the time and, apparently, the weather, the nightlife can be ... well, let's just say it's not like in New York City.

On Thursday night CBS 2's Hazel Sanchez went in search of life after dark and began to wonder: where the heck is everyone? Then she was set straight by the locals.

"Everybody else that's here in Pittsburgh, they would be going to their homes," one resident said.

Home?

Downtown "Steel Town" was a ghost town by 6 p.m.

"It's pretty much dead here. There's not much to do here, not at all," said resident Ramone Ogden.

When you come from the city that can party until dawn, what do you do when the sun goes down in this sleepy town?

"We go to the clubs … go out … chill," resident Devonn Brown said.

Carson Street on the south side is the hot spot, but on a cold, snowy Thursday, few stepped out in the 'burgh.

"The snow is hindering the nightlife for sure because people are apparently afraid of the snow in Pittsburgh," resident Rachel McBride said.

Normally this strip of bars and restaurants is packed with locals. The popular joints include Double Wide Grill and Fatheads, which are known for their hearty sandwiches and their bevy of beers!

"It's a great city for young people. I don't know where everyone's going -- Boston, New York, Washington? No! Pittsburgh's where it's at," Richard Pratt said.

It's no Big Apple, as one former New Yorker attested.

"Glitz and glamour don't describe Pittsburgh at all, but, yeah, it's a nice city," resident Greg Smith said.

And locals say you don't need the bright lights of a big city to have a good time with your Pittsburgh pals.

"People know each other. Everyone's great. I wouldn't trade it for anything," one person said.
