What Happens To AFC Champ Shirts If Jets Lose?

NEW YORK (WCBS 880) - The Jets are big business, especially at one local sports store.

At the 90 New York area Modell's Sporting Goods stores, sales of Jets merchandise were up 50 percent on Monday following Gang Green's win over the New England Patriots.

The Jets take on the Pittsburgh Steelers at Heinz Field in the AFC championship game this Sunday at 6:30 p.m. on CBS.

Jets AFC championship shirts are already being printed and will be in stores right after the game on Sunday -- if the Jets win.

But what if the Jets lose? What happens to those shirts that are no longer true?

"Obviously, we have to write it out of the inventory," Modell's CEO Mitch Modell told WCBS 880's Michael Wallace. "They're not available for sale. We have to dispose of it. We get approval through the NFL, you know, to make sure, and Reebok, to make sure that they're okay. We'll send it to, you know, a third world country where they'll be able to wear it for clothing."
