Confident Jets Fans Arrive In Pittsburgh For Sunday's Game

PITTSBURGH (CBSNewYork) -- In Pittsburgh's sea of black and gold, Jets fans were making their landing. By mid-afternoon Saturday, it was a show of green and white invading the Steel City.

Fans made their way from the Tri-State area to see the Jets take on the Steelers in the AFC Championship Game Sunday evening.  Mike from Hoboken and Gary from Manhattan were among those taking the town by storm.

"We've come and we're going to dominate the Steelers 'cause this is our time and this is who we are and this is what we do," they proclaimed, adding the trip was just a "Pitt stop on the way to Dallas."

Though Jets fans were far outnumbered, their mere presence was feeding the animosity, CBS 2's Hazel Sanchez reported.

Local Steelers fans were none too pleased with the display and the trash talk.

"They're going home tomorrow. They're going to be going to Miami to play golf," one fan quipped.

The usually boring drive from New York to Pittsburgh was filled with Jets fans driving cars decorated with flags and decals.

"I've been going along the highway and we've been all just cheering and honking at each other and just listening to the AM and the reporters talking about the game.  We're just getting hyped up for the weekend," Grant from Tarrytown told 1010 WINS' Glenn Schuck.

Brian Gilsenan experienced the Jets Superbowl win in 1969. He brought his three sons to this AFC championship game in hopes of sharing the experience of a Jets Championship.

"I think we all take over what Joe Namath said back then -- guaranteeing a win. That's our New York attitude and that's how we're gonna go," Gilsenan told Sanchez.

"The anticipation has been unbelievable, but again we're just so excited. We're 60 minutes away from the Superbowl," Al Fricchione said.

Those not lucky enough to get their hands on tickets for Sunday's game were planning to cheer on the team at home.

WCBS 880's Sophia Hall with fans prepping for the game on Long Island

On Long Island, Woodbury Stop and Shop manager Sue Sweeney said the store will host a tailgating party with all sorts of good eats.

"We have seven different varieties of wings, salads.  We have three foot heros [and] six foot heros," she told WCBS 880's Sophia Hall.

One fan, however, told Hall his game time grub won't include the usual chips, pretzels or soda.

"I can't buy anything good because my nutritionist won't allow me so I'm eating carrots, peppers, tomatoes.  That's what my Jet game is going to be tomorrow -- with a little fat-free dip.  How boring could that be?  But let's go Jets all the way," he said.
