Fans Talk Trash As Jets, Steelers Battle On The Field

PITTSBURGH (1010 WINS) -- It's been a week full of cheering and trash talk between Jets and Steelers fans, but on Sunday night the talking ended and the playing began.

The Jets endured a tough first half and trailed the Steelers 24-3 at halftime.

While the Jets and Steelers will still fight it out on the field in the second half, it was a battle of words in the parking lots surrounding Heinz Field.

"The Statue of Liberty will have a 'Terrible Towel,'" a Steelers fan told 1010 WINS' John Montone.

"We're going to send 'Fireman Ed' – with his hat – up the flagpole if we win," said another.

A year after their loss in last year's AFC Championship Game, Gang Green is getting a second chance, and their fans are feeling the excitement.

A pair of Jets fans made the overnight trek to Pittsburgh from Long Island.

"Let's pull it off boys – you know you've got the talent, you know you can beat these clowns, you got it," one Jets fan told 1010 WINS' Glenn Schuck.

"Dennis Byrd all day," said the other. "Number 90, Dennis Byrd, that's all we need!"

Steelers fans were equally confident in their team's chances, taking every opportunity to make their feelings known to the New York faithful.

"When Polamalu sacks Sanchez, I'm sure he's going to be nice enough to tell him, 'welcome to Pittsburgh,'" one Steelers fan told Schuck.

After all the talk and bragging and chanting, though, all that matters for the fans will happen on the field Sunday night, as Rex Ryan's Jets will try to end the Super Bowl hopes of two-time champion Ben Roethlisberger and his Steelers.
