NEW YORK (WCBS 880) – Some people will do almost anything to cash in on 9/11 and now there’s a call to crack down on a company selling coins it claims are made of silver from ground zero.

Senator Chuck Schumer and Congressman Jerrold Nadler said the company, which sells the $29.95 coin commemorating the 10th anniversary of the 9/11 attacks, has no shame.

The New York representatives claim the Portchester-based National Collector’s Mint is deceiving the public by their claim the silver used in some of the coins was extracted from the rubble and that they had the exclusive license authorized to use the FBI insignia.

“Let’s be honest, we all know what this is. It’s an attempt by an unscrupulous business to confuse consumers and make them think it is the official 9/11 coin. It’s disgusting,” said Schumer.
