NEW YORK (CBS New York) -- Tri-State Area residents are getting ready for yet another blast of winter weather.

Snow fell across parts of the area on Tuesday but wrapped up by midday in the City. However, people were already sick of it.

"I'd rather be here than in California with the earthquakes and whatnot and the floods of other places, but I wish it would stop," said Lisa Frazier of Harlem.

Maintenance workers throwing salt on the sidewalks yet again have had their fill of it, too. "As long as Mother Nature wants, I'll be out here," said maintenance worker Rafael Garcia.

Traveling anesthesiologist Dr. Steven Alfond wouldn't have driven his motorscooter to work if he'd know it would be snowing.

"I don't recommend scooters in the snow, but you just try to look around, keep feet on the ground, don't do anything sudden," he said.

The Wednesday morning commute should be fine, until around 8 a.m.

Around that time, another front lurking to the south over Alabama and Georgia will arrive over the Tri-State, bringing snow and rain. Precipitation will become just snow Wednesday night with accumulations of 1 to 3 inches to the south of the city and 3 to 6 inches to the north.

Around New York City, there will be less rain or less of a mix on the front end compared to farther south and just as much or more snow on the back end, according to AccuWeather. Hence the forecast amounts ranging from 2 to 6 inches of snow and mix for many of these areas.

From 6 to 12 inches is in store for many areas of New England, the lower Hudson Valley and northwestern New Jersey. This includes the cities of Hartford, Worcester, Poughkeepsie, Boston and Portland. Most everyone will have some sort of inconvenience or foiled plans as a result of this average to above-average winter storm, according to AccuWeather.

The National Weather Service issued Winter Storm Watches throughout our area until Thursday at 7 a.m. for New York and New Jersey, and until noon for Connecticut. These alerts are issued when there is a potential for significant snow, sleet or ice accumulations that may impact travel.
