NYC Mother Forgives Man For Mowing Down Her Son

NEW YORK (AP) -- A Brooklyn woman has forgiven a 25-year-old man for killing her son while driving drunk.

Maria Boffa crossed over to the defense table on Tuesday at Luis Guamal's sentencing, rubbed his arm and told him she forgave him.

She told the repeat-offender drunken driver: "I wish nothing but the best for your life."

Guamal then addressed the family. He said he was very sorry for the crash that killed 44-year-old John Boffa last March.

He pleaded guilty to aggravated vehicular homicide earlier this month in exchange for 8-to-24 years in prison.

John Boffa was a high school social studies teacher and a cancer survivor.
