NEWARK, NJ (AP) – A federal judge in New Jersey sentenced a Canadian man who admitted running a brothel for pedophiles in Thailand to 25 years in prison.

The judge on Tuesday said it was unlikely that John Wrenshall would overcome his desire to molest children.

Wrenshall told the judge he was ashamed and sorry. The 64-year-old said he didn’t want to die in prison.

Wrenshall pleaded guilty to conspiring to engage in sex tourism and producing and distributing child pornography involving children as young as 4.

He was arrested at London’s Heathrow Airport in December 2008 and pleaded guilty last May.

Authorities discovered Wrenshall after confiscating computers from New Jersey resident Wayne Corliss, one of Wrenshall’s clients. Corliss is serving a 20-year prison sentence.

Dispicable jerk, who got what he deserved. But I wonder why he was extradited and tried by the US: He’s a Canadian citizen, who committed those crimes in Thailand, and was arrested in England. Did he ever do anything illegal in the US, or have we now decided we have jurisdiction everywhere on the planet, over everyone?

Why not turn over all the case info to Canada, and let them extradite him and prosecute him. Now we are stuck with the cost of keeping him in prison for the rest of his life. There are bad, even horrible things out there in the rest of the world that just are not our responsibility.

I am sure that Mr. Wrenshall will be treated with the utmost respect by his fellow inmates. I have heard how inmates view rapists and child molesters. He will be well tended to.
