WCBS 880 Long Island Bureau Chief Mike Xirinachs reports

"[It's] very bad and increasingly getting worse as the storms continue to accumulate," Gene, a cab driver, said.

An earlier than normal pothole epidemic is thanks in large part to the barrage of winter storms to batter the Tri-State since Christmas.

It has garages racking up the dough fixing damaged vehicles and Sal the cabbie offering helpful advice. "You just got to hit the brake and go slow over them so you don't destroy the car," says Sal.

Cabbies in the area say it's the worst pothole season in recent memory.

Meanwhile, Nassau County Executive Ed Mangano wants to hear from residents, so he set up an e-mail address and phone number for the public to report potholes. Mangano said this will help the Department of Public Works to determine where the biggest pothole problems are located.

Residents who spot hazardous potholes in their area should send an e-mail the following e-mail address: pothole_emergencies@nassaucountyny.gov.

Residents can also call Nassau County's DPW at (516) 571-6900.
