CT Bill Would Give Tax Break To Soldiers

HARTFORD, CT (WCBS 880) - Should cities and towns in Connecticut be charging soldiers serving overseas interest on back property taxes here at home?

It's an outrage that they do, say lawmakers pushing for a change.

WCBS 880 Connecticut Bureau Chief Fran Schneidau reports

State Senator Gayle Slossberg, vice chair of the veterans committee, says the legislation would, for the first time, give towns the option of waving the interest.

Senator Slossberg says we should give our veterans a break when they get home.

"It's just a simple matter of fairness. It's a simple bill. It should have been done years ago," says Slossberg.

She says it's the least we can do for our service men and women.

She believes most towns and cities would go along since they don't factor in property tax interest as part of their revenue base.
