John Hopkins, Who Allegedly Held A Woman As A Sex Slave, Due In Brooklyn Court

NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) - John Hopkins, the man accused of luring a woman to New York City via Craigslist and holding her as a captive sex slave, is expected to appear in a Brooklyn court Friday.

Hopkins, 45, faces rape, assault and unlawful imprisonment charges. He's being held on $350,000 bail.

A 27-year-old Wisconsin woman claims that Hopkins offered her free room and board in his East Williamsburg apartment on Humboldt street provided she was willing to cook and clean. She claims Hopkins paid for her plane ticket to New York. When she arrived in the city, the woman alleges Hopkins demanded he call him "master" and told her she was his slave.

Over the next eight days, the woman claims she was handcuffed to a radiator, raped repeatedly, beaten, bound and gagged.

Oddly, she told police she was allowed out of the apartment once, but returned.

The woman eventually contacted her mother in Wisconsin, who called 911.

It's not yet known why the woman didn't call 911 herself.

When police arrived at the apartment, they reportedly found rope, whip and a ball-gag near the woman, who was curled up in the fetal position on the bed.

Neighbors told 1010 WINS reporter Carol D'Auria Hopkins was "weird," given to "mumbling things," and "snotty."
