EAST RUTHERFORD, N.J. (WFAN/AP) — The day after losing Carmelo Anthony to the Knicks, the Nets took an unexpected day off. Well, at least the team did.
The Nets did not give a reason for calling off the planned 6 p.m. practice. They plan to work out on Wednesday morning. Their first game after the All-Star break is Friday night in San Antonio.
The Nets were working on contingency plans Monday in case the Knicks won the Anthony sweepstakes. A person familiar with the trade talks said New Jersey was interested in acquiring some of the players the Knicks shipped to Denver for Anthony.
The Nets and Nuggets have talked about a deal in which New Jersey would send two first-round draft picks to Denver for Russian center Timofey Mozgov and one of the three other players the Knicks sent to Denver — Danilo Gallinari, Wilson Chandler or Raymond Felton — according to the person familiar with the talks.
The person spoke to The Associated Press on the condition of anonymity because the person was not authorized to speak for the team.
The Nets also are shopping point guard Devin Harris, who has been the subject of trade talks with Denver since training camp. Portland and Dallas, where Harris started his career, have also been mentioned as possible teams interesting in acquiring him.
New Jersey (17-40) was 8.5 games behind the final playoff spot in the Eastern Conference as play began on Tuesday.
