Niese Pitches Three Scoreless Innings For Mets

VIERA, Fla. (AP) — Bryce Harper singled for his first spring training hit Tuesday as the Washington Nationals defeated the New York Mets 5-3.

Harper, the No. 1 overall pick in last year's amateur draft, entered as a pinch hitter in the fifth and singled to left field off Pedro Beato. Ryan Zimmerman then grounded into an inning-ending double play.

Harper hit a weak chopper to the mound with two on in the seventh, and Corey Brown was out at home
Washington's Michael Morse had two hits. Danny Espinosa hit a two-run homer.

New York starter Jonathon Niese allowed two hits in three scoreless innings.
