NJ Mom Not Guilty By Reason Of Insanity

MORRISTOWN, N.J. (AP) -- A judge has found a New Jersey woman not guilty by reason of insanity in the strangulation murder of her 4-year-old daughter and the attempted murder of her 6-year-old daughter.

The judge ordered Jenny Erazo-Rodriguez civilly committed to the state Human Services Department.

She had a long history of mental illness.

The 34-year-old claimed she heard a voice from God in 2009 that told her to kill herself and her two daughters in Morris Township so they could end their sufferings.

The Daily Record of Parsippany reported both the Morris County Prosecutor's Office and defense lawyers had retained psychiatrists who reached the same opinion that the mother is legally insane and not criminally responsible.
