Reactor At Indian Point 3 Shut Down For Refueling

BUCHANAN, N.Y. (CBSNewYork/AP) -- One of the reactors at the Indian Point nuclear power plant has been shut down for refueling.

A spokesman said Indian Point 3 was shut down Tuesday night. It will remain offline for about a month.

The reactor has generated electricity more than 97 percent of the time since it returned to service from its last refueling in 2009.

In September, Indian Point 3 shut down for four days after water leaked inside the unit's main generator.

The power plant is in Buchanan, 24 miles north of the city.
