Missing Mom Adovasio's Hubby Talks To Cops, But Refuses DNA Test

NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) -- Police confirmed Thursday that the body found in Westchester County is a missing mother of four from the Bronx.

And as CBS 2's Pablo Guzman reports, her husband turned himself in and then refused to take a DNA test.

Adovasio's body was found around 6 p.m. on Wednesday in a wooded area just south of the Taconic Parkway in Yorktown Heights by a person riding an all-terrain vehicle.

Edwin Coello came to the precinct to see if there were charges yet against him for his wife's murder. Earlier this week he told investigators the scratches on his face were because of a fight with his wife, reports Guzman. Police believe he was setting up an alibi, anticipating his skin would be found underneath her finger nails. But on Thursday Coello wasn't saying anything.

"He was asked if he would give a DNA sample. He was asked if he would look at certain pictures. He refused," Kelly said.

"I'm not going to discuss … I'm not at liberty to discuss. I'm not at liberty to discuss what took place inside," attorney Renee Hill told Guzman.

Earlier Thursday, Adovasio's first husband and father of three of her four children, Joe Adovasio, drove by the 46th Precinct and asked reporters if that "expletive" -- referring to Coello --- had turned himself in yet. Then he told reporters how he assisted cops in identifying Adovasio, due to her distinctive tattoo, reports Guzman.

Coello remains a person of interest in the case.

Coello is a former police officer with a history of domestic violence and the one who reported wife Tina Adovasio's disappearance to police.

Tina Adovasio's lawyer, Mike Lease, who was handling her divorce, told reporters what he knew, like how she got an order of protection but did not file it. Lease said Adovasio had informed him that she feared Coello.

"That would be true. That if something were to happen...he would've been the guy to look at," Lease said. "He hit her in the past … pretty nasty hitting … not a slap. She needed stitches once."

Her lawyer said Tina Adovasio did not file the order of protection, because Coello promised he would seek counseling.

The couple had reportedly fought the night before Adovasio went missing. Neighbors said the fact the two were heard fighting was not unusual.

"We heard the neighbors, this lady and this gentleman fighting here a couple of days ago. I've heard them fighting constantly the last two weeks," said neighbor Ruben Cordero.

Police have been called to the couple's Throgs Neck home at least four times.

Coello was fired from the police department 12 years ago after similar incidents with his first wife.

Investigators have been seen removing evidence - including possible DNA samples - from their apartment. They were also checking the halls and stairways for possible evidence that a body had been moved.

Several published reports claim a man was captured on surveillance video from a nearby building carrying a large object, wrapped in possibly a sheet or a duffel bag from the home to a car.

"I don't know what to say about it. l said, it's kind of shocking to know that this is happening right in your neighborhood," said neighbor John Perella.

"Oh that's terrible, really terrible. I don't wish that on anyone," said neighbor Maura Mikac.
