Greenburgh Hotel Tax Hike Idea Draws Fire
GREENBURGH, N.Y. (WCBS 880) -- A Greenburgh official wants to increase hotel taxes to help balance the town's budget.
Rather than raising residents property taxes, Supervisor Paul Feiner proposed a 3 percent increase to the tax levy on all hotels in the town. Feiner said this could bring in about six figures of revenue a year.

However, Hotel Association President Dan Conte said this tax would hurt them.
"We understand that these are difficult times and that townships are trying to balance their budgets, but now is not the time to add any additional taxation to our industry. Especially now when we are trying to recoup after two significant years of a downturn in our industry," he said.
"Additional taxation would not help our competitiveness in the other markets that we compete with including you know Northern New Jersey. It's just not the right time," he added.
Feiner said other municipalities in Westchester like White Plains already have this tax on hotels.
