Where's Spring? Tri-State Sees More Snow

NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) -- Winter isn't done with the Tri-State area just yet. Just when residents thought it was safe to put away those winter coats, Mother Nature decided to deliver an all-day mix of snow and rain  to the region.

The storm slowed traffic and forced dozens of schools to delay opening in parts of New Jersey.

Speed was reduced to 45 mph on the New Jersey Turnpike between Interchange 10 and the George Washington Bridge.

The National Weather Service is reporting unofficial accumulations of 7.5 inches in Rockaway Township, 6 inches in Sparta, 5 inches in Blairstown and 2 inches in Bridgewater.

A winter storm warning is in effect through Thursday morning for Sussex and Western Passaic counties in New Jersey and Orange County in New York.

New Yorkers who suffered a rough winter have had enough of snow and just want the warm temperature and sunshine to move in.

"I am tired of winter," one man told 1010 WINS' John Montone. "Last Friday was too much of a teaser."

New Jersey residents were also caught unaware by the early spring snow.

Norman Trotter of Sparta thought he was through with snow blowing. "I thought that I would prep it for next year and that would be the end of the season," he told CBS 2's John Metaxas.

"I love the snow, but I hate it now. Spring time should be no snow around," said Debbie Perrin of West Milford.

There was no need for school buses Wednesday as kids got yet another snow day. The plows were out instead.

"It's a good thing we have no school because we have a long time to do it," said plow driver Kathy Thee.

However, some were willing to embrace what could possibly be the last snowfall of the season.

"Great. Can never have too much snow," gushed Rich Gianella of Newfoundland. "Doesn't bother me. It's beautiful and it will be gone in no time anyway."

Forecasters expected a mix of snow, rain and sleet for Wednesday night. The city could be covered with up to an inch of snow and areas north and west of the city could see an additional 1 to 3 inches.

Thursday will be mostly cloudy, brisk and chilly with a high of 44.
