Jose Martinez Accused Of Engaging Inappropriately With Boy, 14By Lou Young

NEW ROCHELLE, N.Y. (CBSNewYork) — An assistant principal of a Westchester County elementary school has been accused of engaging in criminal sex acts with a 14-year-old student  in his office over several months last year.

Jose Martinez, 38, was arrested at his Brentwood, Long Island home Thursday night and charged with criminal sexual act in the second degree.

Martinez was the administrative dean of Isaac Young Middle School in New Rochelle. A seven-year veteran of the district, he was recently promoted to assistant principal of Jefferson Elementary School.

“We got the robo-call last week that he resigned for personal reasons. That’s all they said,” Jefferson Elementary parent Teresa Fogal told CBS 2’s Lou Young, adding when asked if she felt the district knew more than it led on, “Yes.”

Martinez’s resignation without explanation on March 11, along with his subsequent disappearance, caught the authorities’ attention.

“We believe the mother of the student might’ve had some conversations with Mr. Martinez prior to his resignation,” said Captain Joseph Schaller of the New Rochelle Police Department.

“We don’t know that he necessarily knew something was coming, but he may have. She alerted us or advised us that she thought something had gone on between her son and Mr. Martinez, but she didn’t know the nature of what had gone on,” Schaller said.

“There was some indication he was being slightly evasive to being located,” said New Rochelle Police Lt. Chris Hearle. “He was a little shocked initially.”

The school district issued a statement saying Martinez was a well-thought of administrator and passed a criminal background check before they hired him.

There were no other complaints pending.

The incident has the shaken the confidence of parents at both schools, reports CBS 2’s Young.

“That concerned me some because I thought he was such a bad dean, why should he get a promotion?” middle school parent Sabrina Drayton said.

“It’s scary. It’s really scary that we’re supposed to pay taxes and don’t feel like they’re safe,” parent Josie Dowd said.

Bail was set for Martinez at $500,000. His sister said he will be exonerated.

Before you start calling him names, remember that ANYBODY can be accused of anything at any time. Nobody is safe. Let’s wait for all the facts to come out before we pass judgment.

If he said nothing to the cops when arrested and pleads innocent, they will have a difficult time proving anything. Most likely it will be a 10 year probation sentence. He is probably guilty, but you never know these days. Kids know that they can use the law to get back at anyone today.

its hard to believe that such a respected n well like man would do this. my oldest son went to isaac n my youngest is now at jefferson and throughout the years, i have seen mr. martinez and he was the sweetest man, always respectful n always smiling. my son thought he was fired from jefferson cuz he was always in the hallways the school’s show, he knew all the songs and dance on the side and i joked that he might have a little sugar in his tank but could see the genuine love n caring interest in our kids, as we expect from our school officials….well i ask this, isnt he still persumed innocent until proven guility but how can a man recover after his face has been plastered all over the news, website n paper….so does his innocence matter now? will the media give him one minute of airtime if found innocent? i think we know the answer….thanks

I worked with him prior to his employment in New Rochelle. He never ONCE did anything to a child in our school. He was one of the most respected educators in our school. He was a wonderful advocate for our school and students bringing in lots of great organizations to work
with us. I am in no way defending his actions. But it saddens me to see a person with such a brilliant career ahead of them throw it all away. I am truly heartbroken and saddened by the news, as I am sure the rest of my colleagues are too.

My 13 year old daughther is an 8th grader at Isaac Young, she also attended Jefferson when she was younger. I just can’t believe what is going on. I suspect this is not the first time this man has done it, I don’t think he started at 38 years old, I hope the police could find out if he had prior victimes throuhg his life, because people like him escalade and they usually start their criminal behavior at a young age. the same thing goes for Patrick Colon the son of salsa music legend Willie Colon, the 21 year old that was cought with alledgilly child pornography
