UConn's Rentschler Field Operating A Small Profit

EAST HARTFORD, Conn. (AP) — Rentschler Field, the football stadium where the University of Connecticut plays its home games, has been making a small profit, according to a recent state auditor's report.

The report, which covers the fiscal year that ended in June 2008, shows the stadium with an operating income of $326,740, excluding the estimated depreciation of the building. Auditor Bob Ward says preliminary numbers for 2009 show similar income figures. Estimates are not yet available for 2010.

The stadium also hosts the UFL's Hartford Colonials.

Stadium general manager Michael Fresher says Bushnell Management Services has worked to get more events into the stadium, such as this winter's Whaler's hockey festival and summer concerts.

The 40,000-seat stadium opened in 2003.
