FBI: Alleged Holiday Bandit Nabbed In Queens

NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) -- The Tri-State area's most wanted bank robber, the so-called Holiday Bandit, has been picked up in Queens after allegedly pulling off his ninth hold-up Monday, the FBI said.

Marat Mikhaylich, 35, was arrested after allegedly fleeing the scene of a bank robbery in Edison, N.J. in a stolen car which was then spotted on 91st Avenue in Queens Tuesday, officials said.

Investigators combed the neighborhood and found him.

Officials said they've been looking for the 6-foot-5, 210 pound Ukranian national since December. He is accused of robbing four banks in Queens, two in Brooklyn, one on Staten Islandand and a Sovereign Bank in Woodbridge, N.J.

The FBI said the Holiday Bandit, named for his alleged actions in proximity to Christmas and New Year's, has made off with more than $50,000 in some of the heists.

He was expected to be arraigned in federal court in Brooklyn Tuesday, but that was postponed.
