Suffolk Cops Believe They've Found Human Remains On Gilgo Beach

NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) -- Suffolk County Police have confirmed to CBS 2 they have found what they believe are human remains on Gilgo Beach.

Authorities were still at the scene late Tuesday night combing over evidence in the disappearance of 24-year-old Shannan Gilbert. So far there is no connection between what authorities think they have found and Gilbert.

The New Jersey woman was last seen in the area not far from where investigators discovered the bodies of four other women in their 20s. A serial killer is suspected, but no arrests have been made.

Earlier in the day police were searching at Long Island's Oak Beach.

WCBS 880's Sophia Hall reported seeing helicopters, cadaver dogs and police officers  searching an area of Oak Beach, which is approximately three miles from Gilgo Beach .
