The third season at the new stadium kicked off with a 1:05 p.m. game. Gates opened to ticket holders at 11:00 a.m., and festivities began around 12:30 p.m.

The gray skies couldn't stop diehard fans from heading out to catch the action.

"Even with the weather being dreary it's opening day. You just throw that out the window," Andrew Lennane said. "As long as the Yankees are playing it's a great day."

One man was at the stadium with his 4-year-old son for the boy's first-ever Yankees game. "It could snow, rain we're still going to be here," the father said.
