Police: Car Runs Over Man Who Fell From Overpass

PHILLIPSBURG, N.J. (AP) -- Authorities say a man was killed Saturday when he fell from a northwestern New Jersey overpass onto a major highway and was then run over by a car that fled the scene.

But it wasn't immediately clear which incident caused the death, or if it was an accident or a suicide.

Phillipsburg police tell The Express-Times of Easton, Pa., that the man -- whose name was not disclosed -- was on the Morris Street overpass when he fell about 30 feet and landed on Route 22 around 1:35 p.m.

Moments later, he was run over.

Phillipsburg and Warren County authorities soon shut down some lanes of the roadway and strung up a tarp to block off the area while they investigated.

Further details on the incident were not immediately available.
