N.J. Roadway Reopens After Tanker Crashes, Spills Fuel

NEW YORK (CBS 2) -- Emergency crews are still on the scene where a tanker crashed in Middlesex County on Saturday evening.

The tanker, which was carrying 7,000 gallons of fuel, crashed and overturned on Route 440 in Woodbridge around 6:30 p.m.

State police closed the highway in both directions while hazmat crews worked overnight to clean up any fuel that leaked into the roadway. The roadway has since been reopened.

Police told CBS 2 that 2,000 gallons were lost in the grass.

The driver of the tanker was airlifted to Robert Wood Johnson Hospital in New Brunswick where his condition is unknown.
