Saturday Will Be 'Foursquare Day' In NYC

NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) -- New Yorkers will have a new holiday to celebrate this weekend.

April 16, 2011 has been declared "Foursquare Day" in New York City.

Mayor Bloomberg "checked in" at Foursquare's New York City office Thursday to deliver the official proclamation to the social media operation's co-founders, Dennis Crowley and Naveen Selvadurai.

After his visit, the mayor tweeted, "Great visit with @dens @naveen & the @foursquare team, and to see firsthand the innovation happening in NYC tech."

Foursquare was born here in New York City, and the mayor acknowledged the strength of the start-up social media site and its many facets.

"With Foursquare leading the way, we look forward to this generation's innovators and entrepreneurs making their mark on our city in the years to come," Bloomberg said on his Web site.
