L.I. Police Find Missing Brooklyn Man's Body In Trunk Of Car

NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) – Police found a dead body in the trunk of a car on Friday on Long Island.

Police said they responded to a call for a possible recovered stolen car on Academy Street in Oceanside where they discovered a 2011 Hyundai Sonata with traces of blood in the vehicle.

Upon further search, they opened the trunk and found 32-year-old Daniel Scialom of Brooklyn. Scialom had been reported missing on April 14.

Police said Scialom died of an apparent gunshot wound.

No one in the neighborhood knew where the car was from.

"I thought it was their in-laws who came up from Florida and we thought it was a rent a car and Tom, who lives there, was out of town on business and he came home and said where's that car from?" resident Al Larsen said.

The investigation is ongoing.

Detectives ask that anyone with information in regards to the case call Crime Stoppers at 1-800-244-TIPS.
