Man Won't Face Charges After Shooting At Robbers With Injured Cop's Gun
NEW YORK (CBSNewYork/AP) -- An off-duty school safety agent who grabbed a gun from a wounded New York City police officer during an attempted robbery will not be charged.
The Daily News reports that Eugene Pitts was cleared by the Brooklyn district attorney's office. Pitts was not licensed to carry a gun.
The incident occurred inside a Brooklyn auto shop on Saturday night.
Police said the wounded officer was shot in the shoulder when four men tried to rob the business. The officer worked for the Triborough Bridge and Tunnel Authority. He was hospitalized in stable condition.
Police charged two men with attempted murder, robbery and aggravated assault and criminal possession of a weapon. Two other suspects remain at large.
