Great Strides is the CF Foundation’s largest and fastest growing fund-raising initiative. It is a fun day for the entire family where you’ll enjoy food, live entertainment, activities for kids and more. There is no fee to participate, but walkers are asked to collect donations in support of this worthy cause. 94% of every dollar raised through Great Strides goes directly to support CF research and care initiatives.
Cystic fibrosis (CF) is a life threatening genetic disease that affects the lungs and digestive system. More than 10 million Americans are unknowingly carriers of the defective CF gene. There are roughly 1,000 new cases of CF diagnosed each year, and approximately 92% of all newly diagnosed patients are under 18 years of age. The predicted median survival age for CF patients is just over 37 years, and the average annual cost of medical care is $45,000.MORE NEWS: Exclusive: Witness Describes 'Surreal' Deadly Subway Push In Times Square
