Brooklyn Woman Even Sweeney Gives Birth In Taxi En Route To Hospital

NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) -- Two Brooklyn women took a cab ride Wednesday that they'll never forget.

At around 6 p.m., Even Sweeney called for a taxi because she was having contractions. Her contractions intensified, and a cab arrived at her house within minutes.

However, the baby couldn't wait. At around 7:30 p.m. on the way to Roosevelt Hospital, Sweeney's water broke and two minutes later, with the coaching of her partner Inez Murray and the cab driver who was on the phone with 911, the couple's son arrived.

The cab driver pulled over on 51st and 7th Avenue, and within a minute, six police cars and an ambulance from New York Presbyterian were at the scene, along with a crowd of onlookers. EMT workers entered the cab, cut the baby's cord and sent the two moms on their way to Roosevelt Hospital.

"I was just thinking how do I keep this baby inside me.  I actually thought, well, I should try to keep him inside, but you can't actually do that," Sweeney said.

On Thursday, Sweeney and Murray thanked the NYPD officers and EMT workers who came to their aid.

They also proudly showed off their "impatient" newborn, Finn.
