According to the New York Post, County Executive Steve Levy was angry over Dormer publicly disclosing too much information about the Long Island beach bodies case.

So, he fired him, according to the paper.

"This story, it was made up. There's no truth to it," said Levy. "Dormer has done a terrific job. I am not unhappy with the police commissioner in any way."

"There's a source, an unnamed source. This could be some guy from the PBA stirring up stuff that he read on a blog and the next thing you know, it's an article in a major newspaper. What a disgrace this is," Levy said of the Post's reporting. "To say that I'm going to be firing my own commissioner without any substantiation whatsoever is horrendous journalism."

Remains from at least 10 different people have been found during an investigation into the disappearance of New Jersey prostitute Shannan Gilbert, 24, last seen in Oak Beach a year ago. She has not been found.

Last Friday, two adult teeth were found. The search and possible serial killer on the loose has captivated many residents on Long Island and across the country.
