NEW YORK (WFAN) — During the 9th inning of New York’s 2-1 win over the Phillies, with chants of “USA!” roaring from the crowd at Philadelphia’s Citizens Bank Park, WFAN’s Howie Rose broke what he described as the “globally huge story” of Osama bin Laden’s death.

The crowd is chanting ‘U-S-A,’ and the reason for that is there are reports circulating — I’m not sure if they’ve yet been confirmed by the White House — that Osama bin Laden is dead,” Rose told fans across the Mets Radio Network.

The emotional night took its toll on the play-by-play man.

“(I’m) still kind of spinning from what was an utterly surreal night on the air — and as well as off,” Rose told WFAN’s Marc Malusis after the game.
