Trump Pulls A NeNe Leakes And QuitsBy Stan Brooks In Memoriam

NEW YORK (CBSNewYork/AP) — It seems like Donald Trump won’t be adding presidential candidate to his list of achievements after all.

After months of flirting with running for office, Trump said Monday he won’t run for president, choosing to stick with hosting “The Celebrity Apprentice” over a bid for the Republican nomination.

Trump’s office released an official statement outlining The Donald’s reasons for bowing out of the 2012 presidential race . The news came as a surprise to some, especially considering the ground Trump was gaining among 2012 Republican hopefuls.

In the past few months, he delivered speeches to national GOP groups and traveled to early primary states like New Hampshire and Nevada. During that time, he reignited the so-called “birther” controversy by perpetuating falsehoods about Obama’s birth place, insisting that questions were unanswered about whether the president was born in Hawaii.

He amassed admiration from many on the far right who have insisted Obama was born overseas and, thus, wasn’t eligible to serve as president.

Obama finally distributed his long-form birth certificate earlier this month, indirectly casting Trump as a carnival barker and the controversy as a sideshow. Trump took credit for the release even though it robbed his candidacy of its signature issue.

Just last month, a CNN nationwide poll of adult Republicans showed Trump tied for the presidential lead with former Arkansas Gov. Mike Huckabee, at 19 percent each. Sarah Palin, the 2008 vice presidential nominee, was third at 12 percent.

A Wall Street Journal/NBC poll also showed Huckabee and Trump tied for second, at 17 percent each. Former Massachusetts Gov. Mitt Romney led with 22 percent. Former House Speaker Newt Gingrich had 11 percent, and Palin 10 percent.

Huckabee dropped out of the race on Saturday.

Below is the full text of Trump’s statement:

After considerable deliberation and reflection, I have decided not to pursue the office of the Presidency. This decision does not come easily or without regret; especially when my potential candidacy continues to be validated by ranking at the top of the Republican contenders in polls across the country. I maintain the strong conviction that if I were to run, I would be able to win the primary and ultimately, the general election.

I have spent the past several months unofficially campaigning and recognize that running for public office cannot be done half heartedly. Ultimately, however, business is my greatest passion and I am not ready to leave the private sector.

I want to personally thank the millions of Americans who have joined the various Trump grassroots movements and written me letters and e-mails encouraging me to run. My gratitude for your faith and trust in me could never be expressed properly in words.

So, I make you this promise: that I will continue to voice my opinions loudly and help to shape our politician’s thoughts.  My ability to bring important economic and foreign policy issues to the forefront of the national dialogue is perhaps my greatest asset and one of the most valuable services I can provide to this country.

I will continue to push our President and the country’s policy makers to address the dire challenges arising from our unsustainable debt structure and increasing lack of global competitiveness.  Issues, including getting tough on China and other countries that are methodically and systematically taking advantage of the United States, were seldom mentioned before I brought them to the forefront of the country’s conversation.

They are now being debated vigorously. I will also continue to push for job creation, an initiative that should be this country’s top priority and something that I know a lot about. I will not shy away from expressing the opinions that so many of you share yet don’t have a medium through which to articulate.

I look forward to supporting the candidate who is the most qualified to help us tackle our country’s most important issues and am hopeful that, when this person emerges, he or she will have the courage to take on the challenges of the Office and be the agent of change that this country so desperately needs.

Thank you and God Bless America!

Donald J. Trump

and again I say…the white Al Sharpton. Trump is nothing more than a media created legend in his own mind. He believes that he has powers and abilities far beyond those of mortal man. The ‘suck-up’ society that we live in makes fools like Trump possible. How many dolts long to be able to say that a celebrity said ‘hi’ to them?

Sadly, he will never go away until he dies, unless he isn’t planning on that either.

  8. S0c7 says:

I would have considered Trump for president, but I was constantly distracted by that dead cat on his head

HE IS FIRED. LIKE HUCKABEE AND BARBOUR, NOW WAIT IS FOR PALIN AND BACKMANN, THAT WHO IS GOING TO ANNOUNCE TO DROP FIRST. Back means going backward not forward., that is for BACK MANN. In HINDI/URDU there is a word PANI, means water, Water alway goes from NORTH to SOUTH, like MISSISSIPPI RIVER which flows from MINNESOTA to NEW ORLEANS, PALIN’s rating is like PANI(WATER) Queckly she is FORGOTTON.

      So stop using oil products.

Put your actions where your hot air is.

      Just blah blah blah.

Oil products includes: transit, food delivered to markets, heat, a/c, tv, PC.

Always the twit that can’t do math who wants to tell others how.

      1. KPMc says:

Oh… there aren’t any alternatives to oil products and other fossil fuels that our leaders can lead us towards? Nothing that is clean, efficient and in abundance here in America as well as the world? Well there goes my SUNNY disposition… guess all that talk was a bunch of hot air in the WIND. Thanks for clearing that up.

I’d have liked him to run. No one else was able to get Obamanation to release his birth certificate. Trump has a business background, and no one has destroyed America more in three years than Obama. In all my life he’s the worst president we have ever had, I don’t care who runs, we must get Obama out.

    1. Wolé says:

On the contrary, he just might be the best thing to happen to America in quite a while. He inherited an economy with more holes in it than any president had ever inherited thanks to the Bush administration and their failed policies. What an incredible mess! He is slowly but surely turning things around despite the enormous challenges. Yet you think a raging egomaniac like Trump can save the country? He couldn’t even last a few months against Obama before backing out which is the smartest decision he ever made. Obama made him look like a fool. The truth is, Barack Obama is not only an astute politician but one who can maintain calm under pressure and thereby arrive at smart decisions. It’s called leadership! Love him or hate him, he is the best thing America has right now and I hate to tell you this but he is gonna get another four years. Deal with it,

  15. Davra says:

It is too bad because what this country needs is Donald Trump who is a superior businessman because running a country is BIG BUSINESS. We have top military men who could advise him on military matters therefore, what we need in Trump with his business talent. We have no one running who even compares with his business experience let alone his world wide contacts.

  16. Dale Auburn says:

Of course, Trump never intended to run.

First, Did he really expect us to believe that he would take a 99% pay cut? Who would ever do that?

Second, he’s already gotten all the free (i.e. taxpayer-funded) publicity he could out of this fake non-candidacy.

  17. taurusbaby says:

Oh yea, like he’s any worse than what we have in there. Wake up people, all this government cares about is not you, but self and robbing you IDIOTS! Here’s a clue, vote for the people you don’t like because those are the ones that are REAL!

  18. Canadian Birther. says:

    Obama killed his buddy Osama?

This is totally irrelevant because he help him and the Talibans during the rather sweet Russian invasion of Afganistan years ago.

    Trump! Trump! Trump!

This is about the dumbest commet i’ve seen in a VERY long time !!!!!Just what the heck are you talking about ???

    2. S0c7 says:

I’m completely in awe of CB’s comment. This is priceless. This is why I come to these forums – for the entertainement.

  19. oldandwise says:

Well I’m not moved one way or the other about his decision because I hadn’t yet figured him out.
But his statement declaring that he wouldn’t run because he has to put his business first is kind of ridiculous. I wonder how he thinks his business will survive if we get another four years of the Liberal gangsters.

  20. Gh says:

Trump will run for President when he is certain that IQ levels have dropped enough for him to be a serious contender. Sarah Palin is so self involved she just doesn’t care how stupid she looks or sounds.

  21. Jim S says:

Another publicity stunt by the Donald. He knew all along he wasn’t going to run; but it made for good publicity for himself and his show.

  22. Orson says:

    You’re fired!

  23. ray says:

You go Trump. He really had no intention of running. But it was good P.R. for The Donald.

  24. Terri says:

  25. Cody Greek says:

    Thank you Mr Trump,
You stand for our beloved country in so many ways, keep on keeping on the backs of those whom fail our country. We need voices as yours to help our country realize it is just not fun and games in politics.

What happened to ” Trumpenomics “. LOL

  26. joyabell says:

I recognize my opinion is contrary to most of the comments, so far, but I, for one, commend Donald Trump for speaking out on unpopular topics. I hope he will continue to be a strong voice in opposition to the forces hurting our country. The current president continues to ignore the Constitution, Congress and even the Court. On another topic which bothers me is IF Obama had his birth certificate, why did he allow a good man to go to prison rather than show it? Also, why has he filed action AGAINST the state of Arizona? What are his intentions?

    1. HARLEM GOING HAM says:

    2. Flynn says:

“allow a good man to go to prison…” are you referring to Army Doctor Terry Lakin?

Explain to me how disobeying your direct commanders makes him a “Good man?”

Sorry that doesn’t make him a good man — that makes him a jerk

That means the army was short one doctor during times when our troops could have used one. If he was such a “good man” why didn’t he deploy and continue to speak his opinion? I know several soldiers who were against the war in Iraq and were vocal about it, but still went because their country told them it was their duty.

Lakin wanted his fifteen minutes of fame. He got it. Now he’s done. And he’s embarrassed himself — well of course birthers who continue to believe the idiocy despite the President releasing the form will slap him on the back for his courage and ignore whats right tin front of them. But as Forest Gump once said “Stupid is as Stupid does.”

  27. Vinny from Brooklyn Heights says:

This has to be the greatest news humanity has every heard! Also, Donald Trump is a very, very, very big cheapskate and deadbeat, and there is no way he would pump $100+ million of his own money into his Presidential campaign. No way!!!!!!!!!

  28. dp says:

I never thought Trump would be a good President… but he would be a very valuable member of the administration….he is a bright guy and would look out for Americas best interest…

Christopher, I’m sure there would be many of us who could fill his shoes on that show but it just wouldnt be the same with out Mr. Trump!!!

  34. edward says:

Well, is anyone really surprised at this announcement.
He never had any intention to run in the first place.
The man is a master of spin and self-promotion.He knows he would never withstand the scrutiny that any candidate would have to face.

  35. None Of Your Business says:

Oh, dear Lord, I’m so disappointed! What a shock that Big Ego/Big Ignorant Mouth will not be running for President!!! It’s really quite sad, since Trump does rather epitomize the trailer-trash Republican Party–along with Sarah Palin, of course, who is truly the Queen of trailer trash. And of course, if Trump were to become President, I can see it now: Trump Plaza White House — the newest condominium hotel /casino development. And certainly let’s tear down the Capitol building so we can build a shopping mall. The things Trump could do for this country are endless……!

  36. Tom Owens says:

Thank Goodness Mr. Trump is not running for President. Who else could possibly fill his shoes on Celebrity Apprentice!!!

    1. Christopher says:

Tom – sounds like you might be able to fill his shoes.
