Kings County Hospital Technician Accused In Cover-Up

NEW YORK (CBSNewYork/AP) -- There's a new twist in a case that shocked the city.

Esmin Green, a 49-year-old Jamaican immigrant, died in a hospital waiting room in 2008. Her death was captured by a surveillance camera.

Now a New York City hospital technician has been charged with falsifying records.

Easton Royal was indicted Monday. The Brooklyn district attorney says the 53-year-old Kings County Hospital worker falsified records to show he had been checking in on patients.

Green languished for nearly 24 hours before collapsing from a blood clot in June 2008. She had been diagnosed with schizophrenia.

Attorney Sanford Rubenstein tells The New York Times the family welcomed the criminal charges.

The family settled with the city for $2 million in 2009.

It was not immediately clear who Royal's lawyer was.
