Mutilated Body Washes Up On Long Island Beach

AMAGANSETT, N.Y. (CBSNewYork/AP) -- Police on eastern Long Island are awaiting autopsy results on a badly decomposed body found washed up on a Hamptons beach.

East Hampton Town Police Chief Ed Ecker said the body was missing some body parts and may have been in the Atlantic Ocean since the winter, or longer. He did not know the body's gender. He said he hoped to have autopsy results Tuesday.

The body was found Sunday afternoon by someone walking on a beach in Amagansett.

Amagansett is nearly 100 miles east of a highway near Jones Beach where 10 sets of human remains have been found since December.

Ecker said homicide detectives have contacted his department about Sunday's discovery, but there is no evidence it is linked to the remains found
