Checkup 'Routine;' Accuser Adds Team Of Attorneys

NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) — Dominique Strauss-Kahn is on the move again. He left his luxurious townhouse Friday morning.

CBS 2’s Dave Carlin obtained exclusive video outside the office of an Upper East Side cardiologist. Strauss-Kahn went in, followed closely by his wife, Anne Sinclair.

The outing began at 7:30 a.m., with security officers along for the ride from 153 Franklin St. uptown to 407 East 70th St., the office of cardiologist Dr. David Blumenthal, who opened up for this one appointment only. Sources told Carlin that Strauss-Kahn went for a “routine” check up.

Tribeca neighbors were unaware that the former head of the International Monetary Fund was on the move.

“Generally house arrest would be confined to the house sounds like, but I guess not,” Grace Ashford said.

“He’s tagged isn’t he? It’s not like he’s going to get anywhere,” Patrick Syms added.

Former Assistant U.S. Attorney Randy Mastro said although you can’t see it on the video Strauss-Kahn is never without his ankle bracelet for non-stop monitoring. Trips away from the townhouse must be approved on a case-by-case basis.

“Anywhere he goes he’s followed by the security force,” Randy Mastro said. “It does require going back to the court and the court officers supervising your release conditions.”

When asked if Strauss-Kahn would be permitted to get a cup of coffee or lunch, Mastro said, “Typically only leaving his home confinement for the particular purposes for which he is released.”

Mastro said Strauss-Kahn’s trips to the doctor, however routine, could be used over time by his legal team to help his case.

“If the stress were having manifestations it could make him more sympathetic to the public,” Mastro said.

Strauss-Kahn’s house arrest will run him $50,000 a month in rent alone, which gets him a roof deck, exercise room, and even a movie theater. He is allowed visitors other than family, but no more than four at a time.

Meanwhile, his accuser is lawyering up even more with extra attorneys for a team anticipating strong attacks on the alleged victim’s character, reputation and credibility.

WCBS 880’s Irene Cornell reports: Strauss-Khan Defense Irate Over Supposed Leaks

Strauss-Kahn will be arraigned on June 6 on charges that he attempted to rape the hotel employee on May 14 at the swanky Sofitel New York.

The case has unleashed a swarm of sometimes minute-to-minute reporting by a fiercely competitive international media presence.

Tour groups are also starting to stop by to see where the ex-IMF head is staying. Getty reported a group of French tourists took part of a guided walking tour to see where Strauss-Khan is being held under house arrest.

Sounds like a set-up for another “he too sick and will die soon” swap. As an aside who has $50K / month for rent and $200K / month for “babysitters”? Is the IMF or the Frence Government paying his tab?

You and I are paying for it. His IMF salary was U.S. income, so he gets a U.S. tax deduction for his rent and security as business expenses.

He’s OUT. No more $$$ except what he’s banked or can glean from prior investments which should be frozen.

the guy is STILL innocent until proven guilty. this is america. and with the complete idiots they fill juries with he’ll be innocent too. just ask those cops. they were acquitted of things they admitted.

Where is the Amerian tenet that a person is innocent until proven guilty? We have humled this man enough,a nd you will not even give him the courtesy of living his life as he sees fit? He was not tried and conviceted yet.

As a REPU TATION _ DEFEND ER hired by the frenchy, you sure suck in hiding your identity. How much does that gig pay? I’m figuring not too much based on the lack of intelligence required.

How does one of the most powerful men in the world, Dominique Strauss-Kahn, end up in prison at Rikers Island, like some rapist or common thief? Perhaps you have answered that since he is both a rapist and a thief, he belongs there. You’re right! But, more importantly, to dismiss this as a simple criminal trial of some powerful sex freak, would miss the point entirely.

To understand what actually occurred in the case of the pathetic Strauss-Kahn, ask yourself, where was he prevented from going, and to what purpose? Was he not abruptly removed from an airliner headed to France, where he was to secure the final details for the new Euro bail-out arrangement? And now, this man, formerly one of the most powerful in the world, is being dragged through the mud; his career, ended, to stop this new, next round of bail-out.

Lyndon LaRouche forecast the current disintegration of the global system in a July 25, 2007 international webcast. He warned that only the Glass-Steagall principle could save our nation and the world. In that period, LaRouche proposed solutions such as the Homeowners and Bank Protection Act, which was sabotaged by the Bush White House and Bail-out Barney Frank.

Later, in 2009, LaRouche and collaborators called for the reinstatement of Franklin Roosevelt’s original Glass-Steagall Act, by name. Then, just last year, Senators Cantwell and McCain introduced an amendment to re-instate the Glass-Steagall Act, only to be sabotaged by the Obama White House in service to the Queen of England and her genocidal lobby in London, the Inter-Alpha Banking Group. Just days after the introduction of McCain-Cantwell, it was revealed that the British Foreign Office would view the passage of Glass-Steagall as an act of aggression against the British establishment! They were, of course, right.

Now, just weeks ago, Marcy Kaptur introduced into the House of Representatives, HR 1489, The Return to Prudent Banking Act of 2011, which explicitly proposes returning to Glass-Steagall. As of this writing, the bill has nine congressional sponsors.

What the media is not telling you about the Strauss-Kahn affair, is that Geithner’s, Bernanke’s, and Obama’s latest bail-out, the counterpart to DSK’s now failed European bail-out, is effectively cancelled.

So what does this mean? We have the opportunity to make Glass-Steagall a reality, now.

This ‘couille’ needs to go back to Rikers for some humbling. There are too many law abiding, humble people living in dire poverty in the world for this ‘cochon’ to be ‘detained’ in the lap of luxury. Treat him like what he is, a serial suspect of attempted rape and sexual abuse.

DSK must be greatly encouraged by the twists and possibilities of the American justice system.

If two lowly cops accused of rape can be found “not guilty” and get away with their abuse, how much better must his odds be, an international power player, against a totally insignificant African immigrant cleaning woman?

    Set the precedent? Let’s see.

  12. Bob says:

This is such a joke. In an era of budget-cutting in network news, why this gets ANY coverage is an indictment about how skewered news coverage has become. CBS (and everyone else sitting out in the street watching this novela) should be ashamed of themselves!

I’m sure SK will get away with it in the end. But no doubt he will think twice in the future before jumping on the first available female.

Which Mafiosi wore a bathrobe and slippers in the street to convince judges he was insane? It worked for over ten years. The NY jail system is easily gamed. One needs only know the judge or a friend or be of the religious persuasion. Great wealth and a foreign passport often allow judges to convince themselves that the USA would be better off with him away from here.
S-K is not a run of the mill American hustler who has shocked the conscience of the nation. He is more of a foreign “freak” and tends to elicit more laughs of scorn-he couldn’t even consummate his attempted rape! What a puny and laughable excuse for a man!
He cannot be perceived as a threat to the city,so he will be dismissed as a failure as a lover and a clown.

  16. Lucius Junius Brutus says:

SK will use a questionable and invisible heart ailment to get out of jail and his credentials will allow him to avoid hard time. If he does not manage to pay off the maid- he’s paying over 50000 dollars/month rent. Surely her silence would be worth a million or two dollars. He and his family use cash like that for toilet paper. If the worst happened, he’d get time served or be allowed to serve it in France where he might as well be free.
anyone who thinks a convicted SKhan will ever see the inside of any NYC or NY state jail again is living in the clouds.
