NEW YORK (CBS 2)Congressman Anthony Weiner insists he didn’t tweet a lewd picture to a young college student. He said he has a private security firm looking into how his account was hacked, Kathryn Brown reports.

“I don’t want to say with certitude that it didn’t start out being a photograph of mine and now looks as something different or maybe it was something from another account that got sent to me,” Rep. Weiner said in a TV interview. “I don’t want to say for sure.”

The vague answer was characteristic of the ones he’s been giving reporters since the scandal broke open. Many would argue a man should be able to say with certainty whether the picture, an intimate one of a man’s bulging underwear, was a photo of himself or not, but so far, Weiner has not denied it.

Instead, he relied on his trademark temper and jokes about his name to re-direct attention.

“Whether the photo is me? Am I allowed to say I wish? Look, we don’t know for sure,” he said.

Weiner was also dodging questions about why he follows the recipient of the picture, Seattle college student Genette Nicole Cordova, along with a bevy of other women on Twitter.

Political experts said the implications of the scandal could rock his successful congressional career and even derail his self-proclaimed hopes to be the next mayor.

“For the time being it casts a pallor on whether he can be a reasonable candidate for mayor.  Why? Too many questions.  Ultimately people will forgive Twitter but they won’t forgive not coming clean,” said Hank Sheinkopf, political consultant.

Do I believe the Congressman? Of course not. What is a married man doing “following” young women on Twitter in the first place? And why would there be the slightest chance that a photo of a government official in his underwear would be floating around in the ethernet? I think Rep, Weiner can forget about ever becoming mayor of NYC. I suspect it’s only a matter of time before he faces the cameras to say stress made him do it and he’s going to enter some sort of “treatment” somewhere. Good luck to him, and to his wife, and to his constituents.
