Brooklyn Rape Suspect Still At Large

NEW YORK (CBS 2) -- A man wanted in a string of sexual assaults in Brooklyn struck again.

Police said the same man who raped a woman this weekend is responsible for at least three other attacks, and that one of them was caught on camera, reports CBS 2's John Slattery.

On 16th Street in Park Slope, an unidentified woman is heard screaming on surveillance video after being attacked from behind.

A home surveillance camera caught the brutal attack on a 24-year-old woman late at night on March 20.

A neighbor, Lisa Phillips, looked out her window while she was nursing her baby.

"You could see him trying to pull her pants down, and she was screaming and fighting really hard," Phillips said.

Other neighbors ran to the windows and called 911.

"This woman was screaming, 'get off of me,' and five seconds in I realized what was going on and started screaming at the guy," witness Gretchen Barton said.

The victim broke away. The attacker was wearing a jacket that, witnesses, said, may have said "Seahawks" on the back. He fled the scene.

Police were told of the surveillance pictures, but apparently expressed no interest in the tape until the media reported the story.

Now, there have been four attacks, all believed to have been committed by the same culprit.

The latest attack came early Saturday, when a 28-year-old woman was followed into the vestibule of a building, thrown to the floor and raped.

"It's scary – this is my neighborhood," Sunset Park resident Yolanda Nunez said.

Another assault happened nearby eight days ago, and on Ridge Boulevard, the attacker held his victim at knifepoint before she got away.

"I really believe it's someone from around the neighborhood," resident Cynthia Diaz said. "I hope they catch this person."

Police had a sketch of the suspect, described as a Hispanic man, 25 to 30 years old, and about five-foot-seven and 165 pounds.

Anyone with information is asked to call Crime Stoppers at 1-800-577-TIPS (8477). Tips can also be submitted on the Crime Stoppers website or by texting their tips to 274637 (CRIMES) then entering TIP577.
