WAYNE, NJ (WCBS 880) – One thing about the end of the month is…

“It sucks,” says Selena Rodriguez of Paterson.

WCBS 880’s Levon Putney In Wayne

She waited over two hours to get her driver’s license renewed at the New Jersey Motor Vehicle Commission office in Wayne.

“Now, I’m two and a half hours late to work and that’s two and a half hours no pay,” she says.

Folk stood in a line wrapped around the front of the building, but cars were backed up on to Route 46.

“It’s ridiculous,” says Carissa, from Wayne.

She was waiting 30 to 45 minutes in her car before even getting past the gate.

She and others who live in the area say lines are usually long at the end of the month, just not always this bad.

There are new hours at the NJ MVC starting on July 2. They are Monday 8:00 – 5:30, Tuesday 8:00 – 7:30, Wednesday to Friday 8:00 – 5:30, and Saturday 8:00 – 1:00.

I don’t understand why this is a problem. If they haven’t done so already, why don’t they adopt the NYS DMV process of renewing your license and registration by mail? This has been in place in NY for years. If you must got to the DMV, it’s not all that bad, considering what it used to be like. Most of them open before nine and if you have all your paperwork in order yo’re in and out in no time. Whoever overhauled the way the DMV offices now operate deserves a Nobel prize. It took someone 2 and a half hours to renew her license in NJ? She should’ve tried it years ago in NY when it took 2 and a half days. If you were lucky

Lets be honest here isn’t it time to do away with DMV. There is this new thing called the internet and most of this tedious paperwork could be processed online.
