Connecticut Officials Say West Nile Virus Found In Mosquitoes
BRIDGEPORT, CT (WCBS 880) -- The first signs of West Nile Virus have been detected in Connecticut and now officials are telling residents to beware of mosquitoes.
The first infected mosquitoes have been found in Bridgeport and state entomologist Dr. Theodore Andriotis says the spring rains and flooding have brought a bumper crop of mosquitoes.
"Right now we are experiencing tremendous numbers of mosquitoes," said Andriotis. "As of today, we have trapped and tested over 112,000 just for the month of June. That's nearly as many as we did all last year."

Just by their sheer numbers, it's more likely mosquitoes will be infected and they'll be biting, says Andriotis. This is the weekend to start outdoor protection with insect repellant.
