Still Lots To Do This Holiday Weekend

NEW YORK (CBS 2) -- The holiday weekend continues and there are lots of events going on around the Tri-state area to keep you and your family busy all weekend-long.

The spectacular weather conditions Saturday night helped bring out record crowds to the New Jersey state fair at the New Meadowlands Stadium.

Beaches are expected to remain packed from the Jersey shore to Jones Beach on Long Island with many people spending the three-day weekend close to home.

Final preparations are also underway for Monday night's Macy's fireworks show. Around 40,000 fireworks will be set off over the Hudson River.

To find the best viewing spots for the big fireworks show, head to 12th Avenue below 59th Street. There are also these access points along 11th Avenue:

  • 24th Street 
  • 26th to 30th streets 
  • 34th Street
  • 40th to 44th streets  
  • 47th to 52nd streets 
  • 54th to 57th streets

Summer holiday weekends also mean drunk-driving arrests and this year is no different. Check points have been set up all around the Tri-state area.

At least eight arrests were made at one spot in Hampton Bays in Suffolk County Saturday. All of them were either alcohol or drug related.
